Engineering Process

One drawing in.
Five documents out.

Once your drawing reaches us, engineering prepares the Technical Feasibility Commitment, ballooned drawing, PFMEA, Process Flow Diagram and packaging standard. Software-assisted ballooning and linked documents keep them in step, so the process stays fast and nothing is re-keyed.

From drawing to packaging standard, in six stages

Watch a sample component move through engineering, or step through the stages yourself.

Complete drawing package in

Engineering starts on five documents the moment the package is complete: the TFC, the ballooned drawing, the PFMEA, the PFD and the packaging standard.

72 hours from a complete package to a quotation response. Complex components that need extended DFM analysis take 5–7 working days.

Five documents, one drawing

Each one answers a question a customer's quality team will ask before approving a part for production.

01

TFC

Technical Feasibility Commitment

Our commitment that the part can be made to your drawing, at your tolerances. It is settled before any tooling is committed, so design questions are answered while a change is still cheap.

You receive: The commitment, with any DFM concerns flagged against the drawing.

02

Ballooning

Ballooned drawing

Every dimension, tolerance and note on the drawing is given a number. Software picks up the characteristics and numbers them, and those numbers are the reference for inspection and for every document that follows.

You receive: The ballooned drawing and its characteristic list.

03

PFMEA

Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

Each process step is assessed for how it can fail, how severe the effect would be, how likely it is and how well it would be detected. The highest risks get controls before production starts.

You receive: A risk-ranked PFMEA, with controls attached to the highest risks.

04

PFD

Process Flow Diagram

The route the part takes from incoming material to dispatch, including casting, machining, coating where the drawing calls for it, inspection and packing, with the characteristics each step controls.

You receive: A process flow diagram tied to the balloon numbers.

05

Packaging

Packaging standard

Defined for each part and agreed with the customer: tray, partition and box type, quantity per pack, part protection, labelling and batch traceability.

You receive: A packaging specification agreed with you before it is used.

Built for PPAP

The PFD and PFMEA are core elements of the AIAG Level 3 PPAP package SAPL prepares as standard for automotive programmes, alongside the control plan.

Documents that stay in step

Two pieces of automation do the heavy lifting: ballooning that is assisted by software, and documents that are linked to the same set of characteristics.

Software-assisted ballooning

Numbering a drawing by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. Here the characteristics are picked up by software, so the ballooned drawing is ready sooner and the numbering is consistent.

Linked documents

The PFD, PFMEA and control plan are kept in step with one shared set of characteristics, so each document is not built again from scratch.

From a complete drawing package to a quotation response.

Fast because the work is not repeated

Feasibility comes first

The TFC is settled before tooling is committed, so questions about the design are answered while they are still cheap to change.

Numbered once, used everywhere

Balloon numbers carry from the drawing into the PFD and PFMEA. Documents stay in step with each other instead of being re-keyed by hand.

Engineering under one roof

DFM review, mould-flow simulation and die design happen in-house at Chakan, with dies designed and qualified by our own team, which shortens the approval cycle.

72 hours is the standard response from a complete package (STEP model and 2D drawing). Components that need extended DFM analysis or tooling cost estimation take 5–7 working days.

Send the drawing. We start the documents.

Share STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG or PDF files. We will review feasibility, flag any DFM concerns and respond with a detailed quotation within 72 hours.
