Generator housings, wind turbine gearbox components, solar inverter enclosures, and structural mounting castings for renewable energy OEMs. Long-term outdoor corrosion resistance and structural integrity for 20+ year service life.
Sector Overview
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy installations operate outdoors, without shelter, for two decades or longer. The aluminium castings used in generator housings, inverter enclosures, and structural mounts must maintain dimensional integrity and surface protection across sustained UV exposure, temperature cycling, salt spray, and in offshore environments, corrosive marine atmospheres.
SAPL's powder coating system — built around a 5-tank nano-ceramic pre-treatment process — provides the adhesion and corrosion resistance performance needed for outdoor renewable energy applications. Nano-ceramic conversion coating produces significantly better long-term adhesion than conventional phosphate pre-treatment, without the environmental concerns associated with chromate chemistry.
For structurally loaded generator housings and gearbox components, GDC in LM25 with T6 heat treatment delivers 230+ MPa tensile strength and dimensional stability that HPDC alloys cannot match. SAPL's combined GDC + powder coating capability in a single facility supports the complete manufacturing flow for renewable energy housings without external sub-contracting.
What OEMs Require
Understanding your requirements
These are the recurring requirements SAPL sees from OEMs and procurement teams in this sector — and how our process and quality system addresses them.
20+ year outdoor corrosion resistance
Renewable energy installations are not accessible for repainting or surface maintenance. Nano-ceramic pre-treatment + powder coating provides 500+ hour neutral salt spray performance and UV resistance adequate for 20-year outdoor service in most climates.
UV-stable coating
Solar and wind installations face direct UV exposure. Coating gloss and colour are retained for the design life with appropriate polyester or PVDF powder selection. UV-stable coating options available on request.
T6 structural integrity for load-bearing components
Generator housings and gearbox structural components in GDC LM25 are T6 heat treated to 230+ MPa tensile strength. Heat treatment records and hardness test results are provided per batch.
IP rating for inverter and electronics enclosures
Solar inverter and power electronics enclosures must meet IP54 or IP65 sealing requirements. Lid mating face geometry and O-ring groove dimensions are machined and CMM verified to confirm IP compliance.
