Pumps &
Valves.
Pump housings, impeller bodies, valve bodies, and manifold blocks — in HPDC for high-volume applications and GDC in LM25 for pressure-tight, structurally loaded components. X-ray inspection available to ASTM E505.
Sector Overview
Pumps & Valves
Pump and valve housings have requirements that other casting categories don't: pressure tightness. A casting that passes dimensional inspection but has a sub-surface porosity cluster may fail in service under pressure — after assembly, after fluid fill, or in the field. The choice of casting process and the level of inspection are therefore more consequential than in non-pressure applications.
SAPL produces pump housings via both HPDC and GDC depending on the pressure and integrity requirement. For high-volume general-purpose pumps where moderate pressure tightness is adequate, HPDC in ADC12 is cost-effective. For structurally loaded pump casings, pressure-critical valve bodies, or components where X-ray quality is specified, GDC in LM25 is the right process — producing castings with lower inherent porosity and the option of T6 heat treatment for enhanced mechanical properties.
X-ray (radiographic) inspection is available in-house to ASTM E505 and EN 12681 standards. Where customer drawings specify radiographic acceptance criteria, we inspect and approve before machining begins — avoiding the cost of machining a casting that would be rejected on radiography at final inspection.
What OEMs Require
Understanding your requirements
These are the recurring requirements SAPL sees from OEMs and procurement teams in this sector — and how our process and quality system addresses them.
Pressure tightness
Pump and valve housings must pass hydrostatic testing without leakage. Process selection (HPDC vs GDC), gating design, and X-ray screening are all managed to meet customer pressure specifications.
X-ray acceptance criteria
Where drawings specify radiographic quality (ASTM E505 or EN 12681), SAPL inspects castings before machining. Rejection and disposition are documented. Radiographic records retained per batch.
Accurate port and bore dimensions
Flow rates and system performance are determined by port geometry. Bore diameters, port spacing, and thread specifications are machined to drawing and verified by CMM or gauging.
T6 mechanical properties for GDC
GDC components in LM25 can be T6 heat treated to achieve 230+ MPa tensile strength for applications where load-bearing performance of the housing is specified.
