Commercial Vehicle Components

Commercial vehicle and off-highway programmes impose demanding requirements on aluminium castings: heavier section geometry, higher structural loads, wider temperature exposure, and longer service life than most consumer or light automotive applications. SAPL produces a range of structural and powertrain components for this sector including powertrain covers, access panels, sensor housings, and mounting brackets.

Programme mix in this sector typically involves GDC for heavier structural components and HPDC for smaller housings and brackets where cycle time and consistency are priorities. Both processes are available at SAPL's Chakan facility and can be combined within a single programme where a vehicle platform uses components of different sizes and section weights.

SAPL operates a dedicated quality plan for commercial vehicle and off-highway programmes, which includes full traceability of material heats, in-process dimensional control, coating verification, and component identification marking. Documentation packages including material certificates and first-article inspection reports are standard for this sector.

Critical quality requirements

These are the characteristics SAPL controls and measures on every production batch for this component — and how they are maintained in the process.

Structural integrity and soundness

Off-highway components see high vibration and shock loads in service. Casting soundness (absence of internal porosity and cold shuts at structural sections) is critical. SAPL uses conservative gating and vent design for structural castings and verifies soundness via cross-section sampling and, where specified, X-ray inspection.

Full material traceability

Commercial vehicle OEMs require traceability from raw material heat number to finished component. SAPL maintains heat records for all alloy deliveries and applies part number and date code marking to finished components before dispatch.

Dimensional accuracy at assembly interfaces

Mounting faces, bore locations, and fastener hole patterns must be accurate for in-line assembly. SAPL produces a full first-article dimensional report (FADIR) for every new programme, covering all drawing characteristics.

Common questions

Questions from procurement teams and design engineers about this component.

Ask a technical question →

What documentation does SAPL provide for commercial vehicle components?

SAPL provides material certificates (showing alloy composition and heat number), a first-article dimensional inspection report (FADIR) for all new programmes, and a certificate of conformance with each delivery batch. Additional documentation — process capability studies, PPAP elements — can be discussed at the programme review.

Can SAPL apply part number marking to commercial vehicle castings?

Yes. Part number, date code, and material identification marking can be applied during casting (via die-cast-in text) or post-cast (laser marking, stamping, or label). The marking method is specified at the programme setup stage.

Does SAPL supply components for export to European commercial vehicle OEMs?

Yes. SAPL has active supply to European markets and is familiar with the documentation requirements — CE marking, REACH compliance, and material declaration — expected by European OEM procurement teams.

Sourcing commercial vehicle components?

Share your drawings — STEP, IGES, DXF, or PDF. SAPL will review manufacturability, confirm alloy and process, and respond with a technical and commercial proposal within 72 hours.
